Absolute Poker Cheating Scandal Gets New Evidence
The news that online poker room Absolute Poker was been played by a super player who was winning almost every hand that they played is long passed being new and exciting news.
But a recent investigation into the scandal by PokerNews former editor Haley Hintze has managed to bring new and fresh evidence into the formal investigation, evidence that Hintze is sure points the blame onto co-founder Scott Tom.
The evidence that has been acquired by the former editor is based on screenshots that have been taken from the number of accounts that seem to have been used in order for the culprit to have been able to make a presence at the tables.
The screenshots of the accounts have been stored on administrative systems at both Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet revealed the haunting truth that the players were in fact the same person as they share multiple log ins from the same IP address.
A further look into the accounts that Tom had in operation show a further 5 accounts that boasted the same user id as the main account that Tom was known for playing on.
Once again Hintze wanted to delve deeper into the story and pulled up the financial reports for the player accounts in question, soon realising that Tom had been transferring large sums of money between accounts in order for the accounts to have the funds seized and the user blacklisted.
Tom then withdrew the amount of $80,000 only 5 days after all the movement was put on hold.
The final note that has to be added into the story is in regards to why the accounts weren’t spotted by the system administrators and customer service representatives.
It seems that this note was attached to each of the accounts in question:
“HEADS UP. PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE THIS ACCOUNT FOR ANY REASON. ISSUES PLEASE CONSULT WITH BRENT, ADRIAN OR NOLAN.”
This was placed to the accounts in order to stop low level staff from placing a freeze on funds within the accounts and most importantly…
Brent is the name of Scott Tom’s step brother.
Pacific Poker Has Rough First Quarter
888.com owned Pacific Poker have this week had to reveal to the public that their trading figures have been lower than projected after reviewing reports that they have conducted.
The online poker room Pacific Poker is owned by 888 and its report left a lot of the higher bosses scratching their heads as figures showed that the site was 15% shorter than the projected figures that they issues at the start of the year, only conducting $12 million rather than the $14 million that they were aiming for.
The recent revelations are nothing new to the company which seems to be over estimating their projected figures after the 2009 online poker revenue fell by over 30%.
As a result of the figures being announced, share holders have been shocked to find that the value of their shares has dropped by 8% this morning too but stock market insiders have told those who are trying to clear their stocks within the 888 gambling brand to not over react.
Although the figures on the first quarter were lower than expected, it’s the poor start that the company has made to the second quarter that seems to have set alarm bells ringing within the ranks.
Cole South Leaves CardRunners
Cole South, a 22 year old Economics student at Georgetown University has been behind the scenes of the online poker tuition site since its creation but after taking time out to think about how he could address the future, he has now opted to step aside from the site to concentrate on other areas of his life.
South said that the decision to leave the site was incredibly tough but with his time needing to be placed elsewhere at the same time, he had to free up time from somewhere.
South issued this statement
“I am sure there are people who will ask questions or speculate about my departure from Cardrunners. I want to make it clear that I have loved my experience here. My favorite part about being here has been the people and the community. I’ve been lucky to make great friends with Taylor, Andrew, and everyone else involved with the business. I have full confidence in their ability to run the company and they understand that this is a personal decision that is best for me.”
Members of CardRunners were shocked to hear the announcement from the player, with many members rating him as the most popular instructor on the site, taking his advice and words as gospel.
South is going to be sadly missed from the site and I know that many others will join me in our sending on our best wishes to the player, who has to have been seen as one of the sites highest profile players.
The professional poker player started playing poker back in 2005 and has since them been able to create a reputation for both himself and his ultra loose and aggressive style of poker.
During the time that he started playing poker in 2005 until now, the player has recorded poker winnings that have amounted to more than $5 million.
2010 has been a great year for the player too with South racing into the year and building up a bankroll over more than $3 million by February.
Once again we would like to thank Cole for his instruction at the site and which him all the best.
Merge Poker Network Receive Increase of Traffic
It’s something that has been coming since the movement of a number of online poker rooms from one network to another but Merge Poker Network have this week announced that they have officially received a higher volume of traffic than ever before.
The increase of traffic has meant that the online poker network has not only seen an increase in the player number within the network but they have jumped up a further three places within the list of the top online poker networks from 20th up to 17th place.
The revelation that the network was getting increased traffic has lead to the sites within the network reporting online player figures up to 1000 players online at peak times, increasing not only the frequency of the networks ring game offerings but also the popularity of the poker tournaments that are on offer on the network.
With three new online poker rooms joining the network from the Cake Poker Network, many thought that the loss of the two poker rooms from their network would see Cake fall within the placings but the network seems to be more than able to look after itself, retaining its number 10 slot once again.
The competition between the two US friendly networks is expected to intensify, with poker rooms on the rival networks looking to increase their promotions and bonus offerings in order to steer some of each others players across the networks once again but with the two set to lock horns, we as players are set to be able to get our hands on some very attractive poker promotions and bonuses over the next few weeks.
